OVER THERE

Over There is a drama and realistic TV Show, created in 2005.

The series depicts a unit of the United States Army’s Third Infantry Division on its first “tour of duty” in Iraq, and presents the War’s effects on the soldiers’ families in the United States.

The US army unit arrives in Iraq for their first task in 2003. They find themselves engaged in an extremely bloody fight, and they discover the real meaning of “american soldiers who fight for democracy. But in the fight, the fear and the death, a true feeling of friendship and brothership is born and link all these soldiers, who begin to realize this extremely serious situation.

The Iraq sequences were shot in California, while the home scenes are shot in the Greater Los Angeles area.

This TV show met a great success both in the USA ad in France, but it was shut down because of its political “disturbing” theme.

The Sopranos

The Sopranos is an American television drama series created by David Chase.

Set and produced in New Jersey, the series revolves around mobster Tony Soprano and the difficulties he faces as he tries to balance the often conflicting requirements of his home life and the criminal organization he heads. The show is noted for Chase’s multifaceted, symbolism-heavy style of writing. Over the course of the series’ six-season run, Chase and his co-writers have addressed a large number of psychological, philosophical, and political themes and motifs.

WEEDS

Weeds is a comedy created by Jenji Kohan and produced by Brian Dannelli.

It depicts the lives of many people whi live in a suburb. After her husband’s death, a young woman decides to sell weed to her neighbour to earn some money.

But she discovers that the real life in her “rich” suburb is not well prepared to reveal a behaviour of “drug consumer”. Thus, our poor Nancy (the main character) has a lot of difficulties to succeed in selling her product. But she has to face a lot of other problems like her children, who never listen to her orders.

This series is extremely original and funny. We can discover the attitude of a desperate woman, who is ready to anything to earn her living!

Damages

Damages is a drama series created in 2007. The story is about many characters :

House

House is a medical drama television series created by David Shore. House won many awards and also had many nominations. Click here for details (first paragraph of the “Show Info”).

House’s department typically only sees patients who have failed to receive a correct diagnosis at other hospitals, so the cases tend to be exceptionally complex and subtle.

The medical cases featured are often rare but realistic, and described by Andrew Holtz, the author of The Medical Science of House, M.D., as “a conglomeration of all the worst things that can happen to people from all over the world, crammed into one little community.”

During the first three seasons, Foreman, Cameron, and Chase were House’s team members. At the end of season three, Foreman and Cameron resigned and Chase was fired by House. At the beginning of season four, House hired forty doctors which, as of “Games”, he narrowed down to Taub, Kutner, and “Thirteen”. Chase and Cameron are still employed at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, and as of “Guardian Angels”, Foreman has been rehired by Cuddy back to House’s team.

South Park

South Park is an animated American television comedy series, created and written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for Comedy Central. The show is set in the fictional town of South Park, Colorado.

The show is well-known for its pop-culture parody, scatological humor and satirical handling of currents events.

Since its debut on August 13, 1997, the show has aired 169 episodes over 12 seasons. The twelfth season began airing on March 12, 2008. The show is contracted to produce new episodes through a fifteenth season, until late 2011.

Apart from the continuously “vulgar” presentation of issues, South Park implements several recurring themes that it frequently uses, including current events, disabilities, political issues, racism, gay rights, death, environment, censorship, political correctness, abortion, sex and religion ; many of which are widely viewed as controversial.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles presents the youth of Sarah,John Connor’s mother (fro those who didn’t follow the adventure of the three movies, John Connor is the future leader of the resistance representing the humanity against the rise of the machines that decided to take the control of the planet).

At the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Sarah, John, and the Terminator successfully destroy the famous T-1000 and the arm and computer chip from the first Terminator. The Terminator is then destroyed in order to eliminate any future technology that could be used to create Skynet. Sarah and John, now fugitives, must also face the reality that other enemies from the future could be after them. However, they were able to delay “Judgment Day” from 1997 to 2011.

OZ

 

Oz is an extremely original american series. The story is about a high-security prison “Oswald” in Emeral City.

This was at first an experience created by Tim MacManus, who wanted to improve the prisoners’ life conditions.

But in this “closed” and hot universe, a society based on hatred, violence, fear and death : alace wher it is useless to hope for some sake or repent.

We can discover through this TV show the totally awful conditions of some prisoners, who have to live together, even if they don’t share the same culture or religion. This depicts perfectly the environment of the actual american prisons.

You are warned, Oz is a fiction that deserves to be seen, but if you are affraid of violence and murder in “real” condition, this can be quite “shocking”.
