Sex and the City

Sex and the City is a romantic comedy. Set in New York City, the show’s focus is on four female characters. It was considered a sitcom, but had serialized storylines, like a soap opera, as well as dramatic elements. The show tackled socially relevant issues, often specifically dealing with women in society in the late 1990’s, and how changing roles and definitions for women affected the characters.

The original broadcast run of the show was on HBO from 1998 until 2004, for a total of six seasons.

• The movie :

A feature film based on Sex and the City, written and produced by Michael Patrick King, is in production. The film originally was slated for production near the end of the broadcast series run in 2004, but the movie deal fell through at that time.

The plot of the film, it was also announced, revolves around the lives of the four main characters, four years after the time frame of the finale of the HBO series.

Heroes is an american series that depicts a lot of characters, apparently normal, but who discover that they have acquired incredible powers. They have babsolutely  no idea how they did it, but they realize that their lives have completely change.

We can discover through this series the very important change that happen in all these people’s lives, who have to lie to their family and hide their powers to protect their amazing secrets and not be considered like “animals”.

Moreover, a psychopath who has the ability to steal all these powers by killing has decided to pursuie each character to get all the powers. Our “heroes” will have to face this very important threat together, even if they all don’t get on well, in order to stop and arrest this dangerous man named “Silar”.

 

 

NCIS

• NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama.

With liberal doses of humor, it’s a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations.

NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a former Marine gunnery sergeant, whose skills as an investigator are unmatched, formerly led this troupe of colorful personalities. Gibbs, a man of few words, only needs a look to explain it all.

Jericho is a dram series. It dipicts and presents the residents of a rural and small town in Kasas. The story is about a mysterious nuclear attack on 23 major cities in th United States. The series begins with a visible nuclear detonation of unknown origin and a loss of modern communications,tht toally isolate Jericho. The order is restored to Jericho by what is alluded to as the efforts of the U.S. government, but a weird “electromagnetic pulse” prevents all electronics from working.

The themes aborded

There are a lof themes that are regularly depicted all along the episodes like the problem of information (with the lack of communication systemsafter the nuclear explosion), community identity, the public order and the importance of the family (the main characters try to face all the dangerous situations together, without separating).

The show also features several mysteries involving the backgrounds of major characters, the perpetrators of the attack, and the extent of damage to the United States and its government.

Jericho has just returned for its second season on12th of February 2008.

ROME

This TV show is both a historical and a drama, created by Bruno Heller, John Hillius and William McDonald and produced in Italy by the BBC.
It depicts the period of history surrounding the transformation of the Roman government that turns into the Roman Empire. We can discover that this change ocurred thanks to a a civil warfare between populists andconservatives, the decay of political institutions, and the actions of both ambitious men and women.

The story
Half a century before the dawn of Christianism, the City of Rome has become the richest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis composed of one million people. Founded on principles of shared power and fierce personal competition, the Republic was created to prevent anyone from getting absolute control.

This is a society where soldiers can get the opportunity to become national heroes or even leaders of the Republic. But as the ruling class became extremely wealthy, the foundations collapsed, destryoyed by corruption and the old values of Spartan discipline and social unity have given way to a great chasm between the classes.

The series was launched in the USA on August 24th 2005 in Los-Angeles. The HBO broadcast the pilot named The Stolen Eagle four days later.

The first season garnered critical acclaim, some Golden Globe nominations for Best Dramatic Series and Best Performance by an Actress in a Dramatic Television Series for Polly Walker’s portrayal for example.

• A 24: The Movie

The film was originally scheduled to be released on August 21, 2008. In April 2007, it was announced that plans to shoot the film have been put on hold.
Kim Raver (Audrey Raines Heller) and Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe O’Brian) have said the directors have asked them to come back, although this is un-confirmed. The film was intended to depart from its traditional real-time format to condense one 24-hour period into the length of a feature film.

Glen Morshower, who plays Aaron Pierce, is the only actor besides Sutherland to appear in all six seasons. • Nip/Tuck

It is a medical drama series created by Ryan Murphy. It is an Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning.

The show follows the lives of two plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon).

In its debut season, Nip/Tuck was the highest-rated new series on American basic cable, and the highest rated basic cable series of all time for the 18-49 and 25-54 age demographics.

The show inspired the creation of the plastic surgery reality show Dr. 90210.

Series creator Ryan Murphy has stated that the medical cases featured on the show are “100 percent based on fact”.

Dead Zone

Dead Zone is a science-fiction and suspense series.

The story  

It presents Johnny Smith, who discovers he has developed weird psychic abilities after an extremely long coma ( he is involved in a car accident that leaves him comatose for seven years. Johnny begins having visions of both the past and the future by touching items or people.

The doctors attribute the visions to activity in a previously unused “dead zone” of his brain that is trying  to compensate for the impaired function of the portions injured in the accident. Johnny also discovers that his girlfriend, Sarah, gave birth to his son but has since married another man.

With Sara’s help and a physical therapist, Johnny begins using his abilities to help resolve crimes. However, his attempts to do good are complicated by intermittent visions of some weird apocalyptic events that happen after  the future eection of a famous congressional Candidate.

This show is based on characters from Stephen King’s 1979 novel The Dead Zone. It has first aired in 2002 and is produced by Lions Gate television and CBS PARAMOUNT Television for the USA Network.

Some informations about the production.

 

The show was originally commissioned for UPN (a famous network, but it later dropped the show , and it was picked up by USA. The series was shot in Vancouver, British Coluùmbia and Canada for its first five seasons. For the sixth season, production jumped across the country to Montreal.

After six seasons, the series was canceled in December 2007.

Lost

Lost is an American serial drama television series created by Damon Lindelof, J.J Abrams, a famous scenarit and produced by ABC studios.

It is filmed primarily on location in Hawaï.

It depicts the lives of plane crash survivors. They fell on a mysterious island in the Pacific, after a commercial commercial passenger plane flying between Sydney and los Angeles crashes.

Each episode presents us, thanks to a lot of flash-backs, the stories linked to the character’s lives.

We can discover whatever they did in the past before taking the plane and crashed in this totally lost and isolated island.

The first episode was first broadcast in 2004. Since then, three seasons have been aired, with a fourth season currently being aired in the United States.

We can ad that the show has become a part of American  popular culture with references to the story and its elements appearing in other television shows, commercials, comic books, humor magazines, video games and song lyrics. The show’s fictional universe has also been explored through video games  and alternative reality games like The Lost Experience and Find 815 (let’s visit the sites!!).
Lost won the Emmy Award for outstanding drama series and J.J Abrams was awarded an Emmy in September 2005 for his work as the director of Pilot.
